Specialty Farms recently received the nation's first Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification for sprouts, the highest standard sanitary guideline for food production in the world.  What Makes SQF Unique. After a rigorous inspection process by the independent Silliker Laboratory, Specialty Farms scored 96 out of 100 total possible rating points.  Our SQF Certification assures our customers that all products produced and packaged at our facility are produced under only the strictest sanitary conditions.  (For more detail on our SQF Certification, see the attached.)

We recently received annual recertification of our organic status from NOFA (Northeast Organic Farming Association), which also certifies that we meet the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) federal organic standards.

Specialty Farms toward the end of 2008 became an environmentally greener Company.  All of our plastic packaging was converted to a natural gas derivative from petroleum, reducing our plastic usage by 25%.  Concurrently, our entire facility was converted to a State and Federally-approved energy efficient user, via new energy-efficient lighting, motors, and condensers, saving an annual 40% in electricity.

Specialty Farms is proud to announce that in 2008 it received a coveted State of Connecticut grant which was used to expand its farming operations.  API is the only State-registered farm in the largest CT city of Bridgeport, employing over 25 inner-city residents at its indoor farm and 7 workers with disabilities from the Kennedy Center.
Specialty Farms and Brassica is on board again as National Partners with Breast Cancer Network of Strength for the 2009 Walk to Empower. The other local organizations we have joining API are Yale-New Haven Hospital as the Local Presenting Sponsor and Marna P. Borgstrom, Yale-NHH President and CEO who is Corporate Chair as well as News Channel 8. The Walk to Empower is the signature fundraiser and provides the funding needed to help carry out the mission: To ensure through information, empowerment and peer support, no one faces breast cancer alone. The Walk to Empower is Mother’s Day Morning at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, Sunday May 10th. http://www.networkofstrength.org/connecticut/
